ALLEGORY AND SATIRE RESEARCH

When beginning this project I wasn’t exactly sure I knew what allegory and satire meant and so researched the individual words to better my understanding and create a successful outcome.

Allegory – As a literary device, an allegory is a metaphor whose vehicle may be a character, place or event, representing real-world issues and occurrences. Allegory has been used widely throughout history in all forms of art, largely because it can readily illustrate complex ideas and concepts in ways that are comprehensible or striking to its viewers, readers, or listeners.

Writers or speakers typically use allegories as literary devices or as rhetorical devices that convey hidden meanings through symbolic figures, actions, imagery, or events, which together create the moral, spiritual, or political meaning the author wishes to convey.

Satire – The use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.

A literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.

A literary genre comprising such compositions.
